Set the Goal - First thing’s first when it comes to getting a ripped six pack.  You have to decide you want one.  There’s no room for straddling the fence on this.  If you’re not ready to make the commitment, don’t try to fool yourself into being half hearted.  It takes real desire, time and dedication to the cause towards focusing on the right style of foods you toss down the ole piper.  Set the goal, write it up, and then stride forward.

Devise a Plan - Without an appropriate plan of action, you’ll spin your wheels for months even years before you decide to give up and focus back on your innate talent of 12 oz curls.  Prepare yourself for what I’m about to say here… OK, are you ready for this? Sit down and take notes… Most plans WILL actually work!  Assuming you follow through and stay consistent that is.  Forget all the fitness industry marketing hype, that is the truth to the core.  If you’re doing weights and focusing on clean foods in the right amounts, you will get results.  Stay away from the 4AM pizza and you should be good to go.

Seek Solid Info - While most plans will work, don’t listen to Joe Schmo running 10 miles on the treadmill.  While his love handles never cease and the shin splints ensue, I’m sure he’s enjoying his daily hour of hell.  That’s just not the goal here.  If you want to get ripped, be sure your plan of action is focused on resistance training and diet, with a side helping of cardio.

Be Accountable -
If you’re one to fall off the wagon from time to time, don’t be afraid to tap into your support network.  Tell someone about your goals and make it real.  Pick someone that is supportive and will hold you to it.  If you need to hire a trainer or fitness buff to keep you on toes, I’m all about that.  When our hard earned dollars are on the line, we’re much more liable and willing to go the extra mile to get our money’s worth.  Be accountable for your actions.  You know what you need, so reach out and make this part real.

Don’t stop the momentum - Once you’ve got the ball rolling, be sure to keep it rolling.  I like to take progress pics every other week to have a solid visual on the changes that are happening.  While the scale can be an OK guide to results, we don’t want to focus on actual LB’s.  We’d rather keep the goal on the visual aspect and on inches melting from the waistline.  You’ll also want to whip out a measuring tape during your bi-weekly photos to keep tabs on the fat being lost.  While this may seem like a small little detail in getting a six pack, it becomes THE motivating factor when the eating gets monotonous and you’re wanting to slam a case of beer with a few Gorditas on Friday night.  Keep the momentum in your favor and visit your progress shots frequently.
